Patriot Ledger Endorses O'Leary

In his 10 years as a state legislator and in the last several months on the campaign trail, O’Leary has demonstrated a firm grasp of the details on many issues of prime concern to this district, such as sector-based fishing regulations and education reform, which he spearheaded on Beacon Hill as chairman of the Senate Education Committee.

Middle way in Afghanistan is none at all

I support my president in most matters, but serving in Congress means disagreeing where you must in order to comply with your own values and those of your constituents. We have a lot of work to do at home to rebuild our education system, finance Social Security and health care and put people back to work.

Bill Keating says he has been “crystal clear” in stating his position on Afghanistan, but it boils down to this: Wait and see. Nine years is long enough to wait and the spilled blood of thousands of American men and women is enough to see.

14 South Shore Local Newspapers Endorse O'Leary

Fortunately, for voters who make up the 10th Congressional District we have a Democratic candidate in Robert O’Leary who has a proven track record of getting things done in the state Legislature, has been a champion of important causes as state senator from Cape Cod and the Islands and has the political fortitude to best represent the needs of the 10th district. That’s the way we see it from our vantage point and why we are endorsing O’Leary for the Democratic primary on Sept. 14.

7 Cape Cod Local Newpapers Endorse O'Leary

O’Leary has been a vocal and tireless advocate for education, the environment, our beleaguered fishing industry and economic opportunity. He is credited with rewriting legislation that in the end not only sought to boost state support for life science businesses but also marine science such as the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole. State funding allowed the renowned research center to pursue private funding for its work and the result was a multi-million dollar grant from the Howard Hughes Foundation that created jobs and research opportunities.

A health care union with more than 3,500 members on Cape Cod has endorsed state Sen. Robert O’Leary in the 10th Congressional District Democratic primary.

Union officials applauded O’Leary’s efforts to open state waters to renewable energy projects while protecting maritime jobs, as well as his Senate work on education reform.

Wicked Local Plymouth Letter: O’Leary campaigns on his record

For us, and we hope for you, the answer is self-evident. It’s time to stop the polemics and get busy – strengthening our economy, improving our schools, creating new green energy jobs, and ending wasteful spending on nation-building in Afghanistan.

That is why the Boston Globe, and Democrats and Independents across Plymouth who know his stellar record of legislative accomplishments, support Rob O’Leary for Congress. The other Democrat, heavily endowed from a prior aborted run for attorney general, floods our mailboxes daily with slick negative ads, but he also used to be a state senator. Yet in all those ads, we find not a single specific example of a law he authored or helped pass that made Massachusetts a better place for its citizens.

BOSTON GLOBE ENDORSEMENT: O’Leary’s focus on education gives him an edge in the 10th

Education, at all levels, is central to Massachusetts’ economic development strategy, and O’Leary, an adjunct community college professor with a Ph.D. in history, has been a statewide leader in both higher-ed and K-12 policy. For the 10th District, which runs from the South Shore suburbs of Boston to Cape Cod, improving education is the key to attracting businesses and creating a diversified economy. For the state of Massachusetts, having a representative who could deliver immediate impact in those areas of core concern would be a boost.

Scituate Mariner: O'Leary for Congress

From: Letters to the Editor

He has the courage of his convictions and gives clear and complete answers on his stand on the issues let the chips fall where they may.

This frankness is refreshing in an era of sound bites and spins.

Please give Rob O’Leary your careful consideration and by all means vote in the Sept. 14 Primary.

John Whittaker, Scituate
